The letter relates to the payment of British troops stationed in the Gulf. Price writes to Bruce, requesting assistance in the raising of funds at Bushire on the best possible terms, in order to pay the troops. Price states a preference for German crowns or Spanish dollars over Indian rupees Indian silver coin also widely used in the Persian Gulf. , claiming that the latter is reported to be suffer 'fluctuating value', and its coins prone to counterfeiting.
