The letter is an acknowledgement of receipt of Lieutenant Herbert Disbrowe’s previous letter enclosing a report from Commodore R. Ethersey, Commanding Officer Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. Squadron, in relation to the destruction of two boats and a fine at Abu Dhabi as punishment for piracy, and the extraction of a written apology from the Shaikh of Dubai over stones thrown at a British naval officer by his subjects. Anderson writes that His Lordship in Council approves of Ethersey’s actions.
