The letter relates to the gift of a gold watch and diamond ring to Meerza Mahmood Khan, the Persian Slave Trade Commissioner, in appreciation of his good work. Appended to Jones’s letter is the translation of a letter from Khan to Jones, dated 14 December 1855, which is an expression of thanks for the gift.
