2. On the night ^f lotli Ocoober the officer Coni-
manding reported to me that an machine had a
force landing about 6 or lo miles south, of rias al
Hanyurah — about 8o miles from oharjah on the v^ay to
Abu Dhabi, I at once got two of the shaikh of Dubai's
men who know the area well ana as the Officer Commanding
informed me th^t his interpreter was jick I sent Mr.
Ahmad with the rescue party to help in interpreting
et cetera.
3. Although uue sentry was within his right in
demanding a search, &r. Ahmad was ignorant of the
nilitary oraers and was under die impression that as
he was the Agenc. clerk and had just returned from the
R•A•?• rescue worK he was entitled to be treated more
gently than an ordinary cooly or unknown person.
4. The officer Commanding has not yet replied
or said anything abouw my letter re^araing this incidenl
and I have no iivoention of saying any more about it.

The file contains letters, telegrams and other papers relating to unidentified aircraft either seen or heard over the Arab coast during the Second World War, and the emergency landing of a B-17 Flying Fortress at Abu Dhabi in May 1944. Correspondence is sent and received by a host of British officials including political and consular agents and RAF officers.
A telex sent by the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. to the Government of India on 25 November 1940 reported that Italian radio broadcasts had claimed success in a bombing raid over Bahrain, accounting for recent reports of unidentified aircraft in the area (folio 6). A large part of the correspondence in the file concerns payments made by the crew of the B-17 Flying Fortress to local Arabs, who offered them water and assistance. The crew members gave an array of banknotes to one man, which staff at the Political Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. in Bahrain attempted to convert into rupees Indian silver coin also widely used in the Persian Gulf. at the Eastern Bank (folio 38).
