The letter explains that while the author is not yet satisfied with the explanation for the motives behind the previous expedition, in order to restore the reputation of 'British arms' they will work with the Imam against the Beni Boo Ullee [Banī Bū ‘Alī] tribe.
The author is not known, but it is likely to be Francis Warden, Chief Secretary to the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. . The letter is also undated, but the content and surrounding correspondence suggests an approximate date of around December 1811.
