  • Despatch number 94: Printed papers and a letter on the abolition by the Chinese Government of the trafficking of opium and the suspension of foreign trade at the port of Canton (ff 7-26)
  • Despatch number 96: Abstract of contents of despatch to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. The entries are arranged approximately in chronological order from the front to the rear of the volume.

Physical characteristics

Foliation: the foliation sequence (used for referencing) commences at the inside front cover with 1 and terminates at the inside back cover with 637; these numbers are written in pencil, are circled, and are located in the top right corner of the recto The front of a sheet of paper or leaf, often abbreviated to 'r'. side of each folio. A previous foliation sequence, which is also circled, has been superseded and therefore crossed out.

The file contains a number of newspaper cuttings which have been foliated in the order that they appeared in the volume (ff 18-27); for conservation purposes, these folios have been removed and stored separately.
