This item consists of copies of correspondence, minutes, and consultations, cited in, or enclosed with, political letters from the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. . It is the second in a series of seven items about the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. (the others are IOR/F/4/1912/81793, 81795, 81796, 81797, 81798, and 81799). The correspondents are the governments of Bombay and India, and Samuel Hennell, Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. .
This item concerns a request by Hennell that the Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. in Karrak [Jazīreh-ye Khārk] employ one havildar Custodian; police sergeant; jail or prison guard. , four peons, and two sweepers. After consultation with the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. and the Government of India, Hennell only employed one sweeper, not two. A list of their salaries is included.
