The item concerns a request by Taylor to retain the services of Andrew Ross, the Assistant Surgeon at the Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. , even after he has been promoted to Full Surgeon. He would normally be required to vacate his position on his promotion.
