a satisfactory settlement of outstanding cases
against the Khoedad Khel.
A report from Kliost states that the Gov
ernor has been ordered to forward to Kabul the
Kurram outlaws, Saiyid Muhammad Hussein
of Nurkai and Saiyid Abdul Kasim of Paidah,
who have formed the subject of many com
plaints by the Political Agent.
There have been three small and ineffec
tual raids from the Afghan side into the valley
during the month. The Militia came up with
one party and shot two raiders, capturing their
rifles. It is not yet known to what tribe they
belong.
Wazirislan. —Lai, the Hindu concerned
in the recent raid in the Tochi (see last Journal),
has been sentenced to death.
It is reported that an embassy of 12 men
from the Turi Khel, Mauza Khei, and Mohmit
Khel Utmanzai Wazirs of the Tochi Agency
recently came to the Mulla Powindah, and asked
him to go with them to their own country and
make peace between them and the Mahsuds,
so that they might unite to prevent Gov
ernment interference in the Wazir country.
The Mulla started on the 27th with TOO
armed Mahsuds with flags and arms. They
spent the night of the 27 th near Pazmak, and
were going to meet the Wazirs in Momit Khel
limits.
The reconstitution of the Mahsud element
in the South Waziristan Militia is proceeding,
hut so far not more than half a dozen of the
former Mahsud members of the corps have
been able to produce the required guarantee.
Other Mahsuds of a good stamp, who have been
able to secure a guarantee from the tribal
jirga, are enlisting, and before long it is hoped
that the hundred Mahsuds with which the ex
periment is to be restarted will be forthcoming
Owing to the unusually severe winter, many
Mahsuds are now seeking re-enlistment in the
regular army.
The work on the Murtaza-Wana road is
proving very difficult, especially on the Dozakh
langi.
Baluchistan.
On the 16th instant, 60 of the Khan of
Kalat s troops escaped from their quarters and
came to the Agency and Post Office building at
