Priority.
1. To-night communication with Askabad was restored. Hegarding keeping
the defence of Kransnovodsk in our hands, the Askahad Government protest
they have no desire to run counter to us and do not contest the position we
have taken up. They will not now invite Bicharakov to come over this side
hut trust I shall have no objection to possibly one or two squadrons of
Cossacks coming over which they needed for reservation of order internally
and propose to post at Kizilarvat and Askabad.
2. From Krasnovodsk it is reported meanwhile that Bicharakov’s position
at Petrovsk is critical as enemy are closing in and have cut off water supply,
have any steps he taken by North Persia Force or Commodore to inform
Turks attacking Bicharakov of suspension of hostilities ? If mot, can this be
done at once. Bicharakov should be able to hold his own against remainder
of enemy if Turks drop not. I consider (telegraphic omission) come over to
this side Caspian.

on 1 Cavalry Division of 2 brigades, 2 Indian Divisions with 1 brigade of
artillery each is as follows.

. The requirements of civil population of Mesopotamia are not allowed for
m these figures. For reason given m the last sentence of my B.-D. E.-9 of
October 20th (N. R,. W. S.) it is proposed to allocate the whole of Light
draught mules 1,270 from horses for this making total of 4,000 animals
which is the number likely to be required. On this basis surplus will be Horses
o,4o0, Light draught mules nil.
Ordnance mules, of 1,000 mules present, 250 will he required for each
battery, remaining. Equipment mules 4,288, Army Transport draught
mules lo,860 (this includes A. T. draught ponies and 1,281 mules and ponies of
Imperial Service Transport units), Army Transport pack mules 8,136.
Figures given throughout must be taken as an estimate. A more accurate
forecast could be given on receipt of information asked for in mv letter
D. B. M. 9 of October 20th (M. B. W. S.) ^
For Persian Line of Communication Works or other Directorates, no
allowance has been made.
