(Received 10 a.m., 5th.)
14858. 3rd November. Operations South Persia. Continuation of my
14546, 26th October. Farman Farma has been requested to nominate
suitable Deputy Governor for Borasjun. Ghazanfar absconded 23rd October,
but is in correspondence with General Oihcer Commanding, Bushire, who
considers him powerless. Reconnaissance to Daliki, accompanied by Chief
Political Officer, met no opposition. Kalantars’ attitude friendly. Orton
defeated Soulat’s forces 23rd October and 24th October, relieving Ehtesham
on latter day. Enemy casualties estimated at 220. Our casualties estimated
at three Indian other ranks killed, 13 Indian other ranks wounded. Of
Soulat’s estimated 1,500 men, bulk dispersed, only 350 accompanying him
towards Farrashband. Sykes states that behaviour of South Persia Rifles
detachment under Ehtesham was reported as excellent by Orton. Influenza
raging in Shiraz and Firuzabad areas.
