The item contains a letter from Major Samuel Hennell, Resident in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. , to the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. , dated 12 July 1847. Hennell reports that His Highness Syed Soowenee [Sayyid Thuwaynī bin Sa‘īd Āl Bū Sa‘īd] has instructed the Custom Master at Muskat [Muscat] to refund some of the duty charged against British subjects who recently exported wool from Bunder Abass [Bandar-e ʻAbbas]. The item also contains the Government of Bombay’s response, dated 11 October 1847.
