orders were being issued for the discontinuance
of the interference.
41. The British Consul at Bandar Abbas
has visited Henjam, and reported that the
recently established customs mirza goes in
fear of his life, and owes his existence to
the proximity and protection of our telegraph
clerk. At the same time the telegraph clerk
is incurring risk and unpopularity in harbour
ing the customs mirza.
42. Kerman. —M. Cesari, a Corsican, in
the employ of the Persian Customs Adminis
tration, informed His Majesty's Consul that
the customs receipts had decreased by
£50,000 during the last quarter, and that the
Customs posts on the Baluchistan frontier had
all been withdrawn.
43. The Commercial Mission to Persia
(vide paragraph 3u of the Memorandum for
January) returned to Kerman on the 20th
February after a successful tour to Bam, Narma-
shir, Jiruft, and Rain. Mr. Newcomen, the
President of the Mission, has proposed to give
a gold medal annually to the Parsi boy who
makes the greatest progress in English.
