Mohammerah.
29th October to 25th November.
1020. Local Officials .—Excellency the Shaikh received a telegram
from Tehran on the 30th October, informing him of the appointment of Ijlal-
cs-Sultaneh as Governor-General of Arahistan. He is the brother of Motamid-
i-Khakan, who was shot at Ispahan. Since the departure of Fakhr-ul-Mulk
this is the fifth nominee for the post.
1021. Azad-es-Sultan, brother of the Salar-ed-Dowleh, arrived at Basrah
sometime ago after Salar-ed-Dowleh’s defeat at Hamadan. He had been
appointed Governor of Kermanshah by his brother when they occupied that
place, hut fled via Pusht-I-Kuh after the defeat. He sent a letter to the
Shaikh by a man whom he described as a trusted servant; it now transpires
that the bearer of the letter was Azad-es-Sultan himself. He has received a
pardon from the Mejlis and is now at Baghdad on his way to Tehran.
1022. British Interests .—A fracas occurred at Abadan between Lur
police and Indian employes. In consequence on the 18th November all Indian
employes except some Sikh fitters struck work and came to Mohammerah to see
His Majesty’s Consul. They were persuaded to return to Abadan and resumed
work on the 19th November. The Indian employes had various complaints to
make.
Ahwaz.
25th October to 22nd November.
1023. Local Officials.— Sardars Muhtasham and Bahadur are
reported to be in the vicinity of Kermanshah. It is said that they have
orders from Tehran to punish the tribes who rendered assistance to Salar-ed-
Dowleh and depose the chiefs of these tribes appointing others m their place.
-m2-l The Rais-i-Nazmiyeh returned to Nasiri on the 10th November and
left for Mohammerah on the 12th. His force of police has disbanded owing to
the men receiving no pay. .
1025. Mir Haii, the Rais of Dirakwands, arrived m Nasm on the 18th
November and left on the 22nd for Mohammerah to visit Shaikh Khazal
This is one of the persons who took part m the attack on Lieutenant Lorimer
and Major Douglas in 1904 He carried a letter to Shaikh Khazal from th
Salar-ed-Dowleh.
1026. Condition of Country {North .-With reference to
-naraorauh 925 the Kalawand robbers have up to date plundered three Gotwand
Sravans I^y have also looted the Bakhtiari villages called Kana Shalgahx
; and Karia Gunnar driving off the villagers cattle.
1027. A caravan, of 60 loads arrived in Hizful
11 th November escorted by Mirs Nabi, Haji and
tribe. Mir Haji and Mir Rustom brought letters
to the Sagwands inviting them to join him.
