The third was a case of unlawful possession of stolen property. The
accused in this case was convicted under Section 411 of the Indian Penal
Code and sentenced to three months* rigorous imprisonment. The sentence
was carried out in the Basra Jail.
(3) During the year under report two British Indians were tried by the
Judicial Assistant at Kerman for serving the King’s enemies. The cases
T\ere not concluded at the close of the year.
(4) Three criminal cases were tried by Lieutenant-Colonel R. L. Kennion,
Magistrate of the First Class at Mohammerah.
In the first case the accused w r as sentenced under Section 492, Indian
Penal Code, for Breach of Contract to 10 days’ simple imprisonment.
In the second the accused was convicted of theft under Section 380,
Indian Penal Code, and sentenced to two months’ simple imprisonment and a
fine of R« 20. The sentence was carried out in the Basra Jail and the
line recovered by the Jail authorities.
In the third the accused was found guilty of housebreaking under
Sections 454 and 45 i, Indian Penal Code, and sentenced to three months’
rigorous imprisonment and a fine ‘of Rs. 25. The sentence was carried out in
the Basra Jail and the fine recovered by the Jail authorities.
(5) No criminal proceedings were instituted in any other Court within
the limits of the Order.
(b) Civil.
No civil suits were filed in any Court within the limits of the Order.
Miscel laneous.
The Indian Court Fees Act, 1870 (Act No. YII of 1870), was made
applicable to the Persian Coast and Islands with effect from the 1st November
1916 (Foreign and Political Department Notification No. 1840-G., dated 5th
October 1916).
Registration.
British subjects have been registered as follows:—
(1) At the Consulate-General at Bushire—
British subjects 123, fees levied Rs. 123.
(2) At the Consulate at Kerman—
British subjects 41, fees levied Rs. 41.
(3) At the Consulate at Mohammerah—
British subjects 80, fees levied Rs. 80.
(4) At the Vice-Consulate at Bandar Abbas—
British subjects 175, fees levied Rs. 175.
(5) At the Vice-Consulate at Lingah—
British subjects 39, fees levied Rs. 39.
As the year was nearly at the end when His M ajesty’s Consul arrived at
Shiraz the issue of registration certificates was postp oned till the new year.
