APPENDIX IV.
Bandar Shahpxjr.
1. General .—Bandar Shahpur was officially declared open
by H. I. M. The Shah in December 1932 and has been used by
a few ships>every month.
Ships of 24. feet draught can reach the port but a great deal
has still to be dWe in the way of survey and navigational aids in
the Khor Musa before the port can be considered safe for regular
shipping.
The port itself li^son the seawawt-^edte of a large mud flat,
which extends back soVe seven miles before becoming what mav
be properly termed thy mainland/ At high tide this mud flat is
flooded to a depth of 2 to\] feet.
It has not yet emergecNirom a state of a railway construction
terminal and an accumufytibu /f steel, rails, sleepers, etc.,
occupies most of the storage sWcef The port consists of an area
about | mile long by 200 wirdsUvide at its broadest point, which
has been filled to a height offivot to eight feet above the natural
level of the mud bank^ An additional area 800 feet long and
200 to 400 ft. wide hasvdlso been \unded off with a view to
reclamation. \/ /
The main linerof the Railway runXlength-wise through the
raised area and leaves ont on to a jetty.
2. Wharves chtdjetnes. —At present tliyre is one jetty. This
is approached EivlHNfiduct some three hundred yards long of tim
ber construutjoiiNyrrving a single line of raiWay. The jetty is
also of wooW^K^onstrnction on piles and carnV; two tracks for
a length of J^out 400 feet. An extension to tVs jetty on steel
piles haw betn completed and the face of the old portion has
been takoqj/ further 15 feet out into the stream. Thus the
depth of water at the face of the jetty is probably \ver 30 feet.
Total length of face is now 850 feet. The extra wid\h provides
space for a third railway track but the single track Approach
about 1,000 fret in length on wooden piles still limits theVapacity
of the jetty. Movement of barges to and from the unloading
berth is only possible at high tide. The depth of water 45 feet
out from the jetty face is 60 feet L. YV. O. S. T.
The depth of water at the bar at the mouth of the Kf
Musa Channel is about 22 feet L. YV. O. S. T.
The width of the Khor Musa deep water channel is from
l mile to | mile.
