SOUTHERN DIVISION . * 1
In the railway land in the Southern Division the following provisions have
been made for the exercise of the jurisdiction which has been ceded :—•
A. On the lines in the Travancore and Cochin States the laws, courts Shoranur-Cochin and

Districts have been introduced, subject to the appointment of a separate Super
intendent of Police, by the following notifications :—
JSo. 5096-1. B., dated the 27th December 1906. —Whereas His Highness
the Maharaja of Travancore and His Highness the
Raja
King
of Cochin have ceded
to the British Government full and exclusive power and jurisdiction of every
kind over the lands lying within their respective States which are, or may
hereafter be, occupied by the Shoranur-Cochin Railway (including the lands
occupied by stations, by outbuildings, and for other railway purposes) and
over all persons and things whatsoever within the said lands :
In exercise of such power and jurisdiction and of the powers conferred
by the Indian (Foreign Jurisdiction)
Order in Council
A regulation issued by the sovereign of the United Kingdom on the advice of the Privy Council.
, 1902, the Governor-
General in Council is [leased to provide as follows for the administration of
justice within the said lands :—•
(1) The said lands shall be deemed to be part of the Cochin taluk of the
Malabar district.

Originally compiled by John Molesworth Macpherson, Secretary of the Government of India, Legislative Department, it was revised and continued up to 15 August 1899 by A Williams, for the Second Edition, and up to 19 April 1913 by Oswald Vivian Bosanquet, for this Third Edition. The volume was printed by Superintendent Government Printing, Calcutta, 1914.
The volume lists all laws relating to railways enacted by either the British Legislature or the British Indian Executive Government and in force in the Native States of India. The volume begins with three prefaces to each of the three editions, with notes on arrangements and definitions of terms.
