the Wadi A seasonal or intermittent watercourse, or the valley in which it flows. and the Ganjianchum rivers are fordable. From
Jassan the road turns south-west to Bughilah via Slayim which
is 15 miles north-east of Bugailah.
Supplies.—A limited quantity at Jassan, otherwise nil.
Water. The Suwaikiyah Marsh water is undrinkable. Good
water from the Ganjianchum river. From Jassan to Bughai-
lah (38 miles) no drinkable water en route.

Distance. —About 30 miles.
Road.—Several canals cuts and the bed_ of the Bala Rud
have to be traversed but offer no particular difficulty.

Water Communications in Marsh Area West of
TIGRIS between MUDAILIL and AMARAH.
The following observations were made on July 4tn-
6th, 1916.
Authority .—Lieutenant E. C. Moore, Intelligence
Officer, Tigris, L. of C. Defences.
I Note. —It must be clearly understood that the depths of water and the extent
of floods are constantly changing.
The Nahr Mudailil has a width at its head of about 50
yards with a depth of 31'. , . ,
The Nahr Kharash takes off to the S. E. at a few hundred
yards from the head of the Mudailil Canal, and is now dry.
Its bed, at the take off, is about 1' above the present level of
the water in the Mudailil Canal. .
At mile 2 of the Mudailil Canal, the Nahr Dujailah takes
off to the West water from it is now flowing into the Nahr
