Sir,
I beg to state that it is some months ago that
you wrote to the
Residency
An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India.
about my house rent. I had
made it clear then that I will be satisfied with a house
rent allowance of Rs.200/- per mensem and would not ask
for any increment if it was sanctioned. I now understand
that there is no hope of getting that allowance and as
I find it difficult to carry on without such help from
the Government - as my pay does not help me to pay such
high rent in Kuwait - I reauest you to kindly refer my
OL
case again to His Majesty’s Government through the proper
channel asking them either to sanction the rent as from
the time I joined Foreign Office Service or alternatively
to give me an increment of Rs.200/- per mensem from the
same period. I reauest you to allow me to add that I am
quite willing to serve His Majesty*s Government for years
to come provided I am given a fair salary to cover my
living expenses. Sir, you know well how hard it is to
live on such meagre salary that I am now getting, which
is*almost half of what some of the local Government em
ployees are getting, and that I can get double the present
pay anywhere in Kuwait. I sincerely hope that you will
kjndly consider this, my humble request and assist me
as much as you consider it reasonable.
I have the honour to be
Sir,
Your most obedient servant,
