Letter regarding the news of Pelly's health and local matters relative to Bushire including:
- Orders from the Commissioner in Sind regarding charges for the shipping of opium from Kurrachee [Karachi] and enquiring whether the charges would apply if an opium cargo was aboard a ship passing through Kurrachee but which was not landed or transhipped.
- The arrival of the S S Mesopotamia which had brought goods for Messrs Gray Paul and themselves.
- The recent weather, including temperature and barometer readings.
- Ministerial changes in Persia.
The letter also refers to an enclosed letter to Mr (Charles) Alison, which is not present.
