About this record
- Content
Incomplete draft of a letter to Sir Bartle Frere, lacking a start or end which is a copy of some parts of Pelly's letter to Sir Bartle on folios fourteen to fifteen.
The letter includes the desire of the crew of Highflyer to re-attack the fort at Demaum; a list of sizes of pearls with their prices (not enclosed); and Pelly's recent ill health owing to the hot weather and his need to take leave and return to England once affairs in Muskat are settled.
This drafts contains a postscript not included in the original letter asking if Mr Dawes is available to return to the Gulf and work for Pelly and reporting that Dr Colvill has been sent to Bassidore to report on Cholera there.
A further paragraph below the postscript relates to the Viceroy's decision to not provide financial aid to the Sultan of Muskat and regarding the Beni Yass [Bani Yas] and other tribes who may move against the Sultan, and asking permission to attack their forts if they do so as well as questioning whether his actions should be limited to protecting British interests or also aiding allies by sea.
