The letter discusses the deployment of ships in the Gulf to protect against the perceived threat of attack by Mīr Muhanna, including an expedition force to Bushire. The appointment of John Botham as writer The lowest of the four classes into which East India Company civil servants were divided. A Writer’s duties originally consisted mostly of copying documents and book-keeping. for the expedition and the need for a 'publick table' (the provision of meals for the men of the expedition) at Bushire are also mentioned.
