west, and appear to terminate about two miles west
of the commencement of the similar line of cltfs
which begin at the Pool i Khan. There is a re
markable circumstance to be observed concerning
this line of rocks, which is considerable, and that is,
that it begins at once and terminates in the plain.
Our head muleteer Aga Mohammed Taki, a
curious humorous sort of fellow, it seems had settled
it in his own mind that we were to remain for the
night at Bendameer; for when we came near it
he pushed on before us to secure quarters; and in the
Bend I was met by the chief of the village, who
came to meet me, and to invite me to stay there that
night. I had intended going on to Zergoon, but I
allowed the muleteer to have his own way, and
agreed to his arrangement; being furthei enticed by
the inviting appearance of a clean kioshk or bala
honeh at the top of the house on the Bend, pie
pared for me by the chief, and the rushing sound
of the waters, which promised an agreeable nights

August 2m—The Bend, which consists of thir-
teen arches, is three hundred and fifty feet long an
eighteen feet broad, but is in a very ruinous condi
tion. I ascertained on the spot that it was built ly
