The letter concerns a merchant ship, the Agnes , that many local merchants believe to have been carrying letters and cargo for them. The aforementioned merchants believe William Bruce had ordered the Captain of the vessel not to land at Bushire, leading to a dispute; Mr Bruce denies that the vessel had any cargo intended for Bushire.
Also discussed in the letter is a Persian expedition to the Chaub being mounted from Sheraz [Shiraz], measures William Bruce has taken to secure his communication links to Bussora [Basra] in view of Persian suspicions of British motives, and a bill he has approved for Jaffer Ali Khan [Ja‘afar ‘Alī Khān].
