In the letter, the Resident is explaining that he will authorize Jaffer Ali Khan [Ja‘afar ‘Alī Khān] to furnish Mahomed Koly Begs with gifts in return for useful services rendered to the British, but it also notes that he will not consent to him being granted a monthly salary. The promotion of Colonel Malcolm and the powers he has been granted to act in Persia are also outlined.
