The letter is informing the Resident that the Governor of Bombay has been authorized by the Governor General of India to make cost reductions. It therefore instructs the Resident to report on any savings that could be made at the Bushire Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. .
