The letter is enclosing a copy of William Bruce's letter to Neil Benjamin Edmonstone dated 8 January 1811 (see ff. 95v-96) for the information of the Bombay Government. It regards the necessity of the Resident travelling to Bussora [Basra] and the placement of Lieutenant Robert Taylor in charge of the Bushire Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. during his absence. The letter also notes that William Bruce as been asked by Sir Gore Ouseley not to take his requested three months leave without the express sanction of the Bombay Government.
