The letter is conveying a request from William Bruce that due to the service he has rendered as Acting Resident, and his twelve years of service at Bushire, he be permitted to draw on a monthly allowance granted to the Bushire Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. from the date Nicholas Hankey Smith ceased to do so.
