The letter is informing the Bussora Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. of the arrival of the Pattamai Barbara at Bushire and its detention at that port. It is explained in the letter that due to reports of pirate activity William Bruce felt it was best for the vessel to remain in port until another ship becomes available to provide escort. In consequence of this, it notes that packets have been forwarded to Bussora [Basra] overland.
