The letter is responding to the commands of the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. , dated 17 January 1811, which ordered that the Barbara [ Patamai ] should return to Bombay as soon as possible (carrying any intelligence on Persia that can be obtained), and that William Bruce should pay his respects to Sir Gore Ouseley once he arrives aboard the Lion . The letter also notes the extra guard provided for the Barbara due to the 'present state of the Gulf'.
