The letter acknowledges the orders of the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. dated 29 November 1810. The orders concerned thirty bales of purpet (cloth) sent out at the request of William Bruce, which the Government expects to be promptly sold. The letter outlines the reasons as to why the Acting Resident will not be able to dispose of the bales as quickly as hoped, and outlines the measures being taken to best ensure their speedy and profitable sale.
