- Content
Letter submitting translations of letters from the Wahabee Ameer [Wahhabi Amir] and reporting on his meeting with the Ameer's envoy during which they authorised Pelly to act as medium in their pursuit of friendship with the British Government and gave assurances that they would not attack British Subjects or Arab tribes allied with the British Government.
The letter goes on to summarise the situation within the Wahabee tribe following the death of the previous Ameer, Faysel [Faisal ibn Turki] and to give Pelly's thoughts on the likely shifts in power that may subsequently occur within the Gulf area.
The letter also goes on to propose that the British Government should withdraw from its defensive alliance with Maskat [Muscat] and concentrate solely on peace at sea and the protection of British property and persons.
