Undertaking given by Shaikh Ali on his Accession, dated August 20, 1949
In conformity with the desire of my father Shaikh I 1 after
Thani (May God preserve him) to relinquish rulership and ass g
informing the British Government through Your Excellency , g rar ,t me
father's ease and comfort, accept the rulership and appeal to God to gran me
success in administering the affairs in the best way. I will ta ke the P 1 ^ >

thousand nine hundred and sixteen. T undertake to act in a . cco ^f^ e a ^^ th ^/f h X p t
of its articles and to assume the responsibilities aid down m all the articles ot the
treaties in question and all other treaties and obligations. For this I request the
British Government to grant me the same rights as were granted to
help and co-operation. I also ask for the strengthening of the bonds of friendship
between me and the British Government and for closer ties between us to increase
our friendship as allies. H.M.G. may be assured that I am happy and prou o
their friendship and alliance and that I shall be as their best friend and ally. ask
God to grant us all good things and all success and to lead us to happiness and
direct our steps to what will bring us and the country to general benefit, comtort
and joy.
