Content

The letter is enclosing a translation of a firmaun [ firman A Persian word meaning a royal order or decree issued by a sovereign, used notably in the Ottoman Empire (sometimes written ‘phirmaund’). ] from Ḥusayn ‘Alī Mirzā, Prince at Sheraz [Shiraz], received on 4 July 1822. The firmaun urges the Resident's early compliance with his summons to Sheraz, so that he may then proceed to the Persian Court at Tehran. The letter notes that it is the Resident's intention to proceed to Sheraz on 13 July 1822.
