This file contains correspondence between the British Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. at Bahrain; the British Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. at Bushire; the British Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. at Kuwait; Samuel Marinus Zwemer of the Arabian Mission; the Foreign Department of the Government of India; and Shaikh ‘Īsá bin ‘Alī Āl Khalīfah, the ruler of Bahrain.

The correspondence concern the establishment of a new Christian cemetery in Bahrain on land granted by the ruler of Bahrain in 1901, as well as details regarding the original graves in the old cemetery, including transcriptions of the tombstones and slabs made by Zwemer in 1893 (f. 28); the transfer of bodies from the old cemetery to the new cemetery (f. 34); and funding for the new cemetery from the Government of India and for its general upkeep by public subscription. Further correspondence in 1913 concerns the establishment of a Christian cemetery at Kuwait (ff. 37-42) and in 1920 regarding the forlorn state of the Christian cemetery in Bahrain and a request for funding from the Government of India to make repairs (ff. 43-52).
