and advise thus ungrudgingly given by the imperial Entomologist
has proved very useful in the campaign.

-ed Iran(Zahidan) on the 7th. They toured over 3,000 miles in Ira
spending over a month in the locust Infested deserts of Khuaietan
and Pars and returned to Quetta on the 9th May.
The delegation had to work under very difficult circumstance!
particularly those o! Insecurity and lack of transport. Probably
it will be rit^ht to say that in the present history of Iran, this
was tne first year when the country witnessed such a high degree
of insecurity and tribal restlessness that even the local autho
rities themselves considered it inadvisable to move far from the
main roads into tae desert area* Moreover, means of transport j
for carrying the control equipment and for tne touring of the
locust staff were scarce owing to the extreme shortage of motor
tyres and tubes. In addition to these difficulties, it must be
mentioneu that in the beginning, the Iranian Agricultural staff
were somewhat sceptic about the assistance which this delegation
could render. However with tact and energy not only were these
doubts removed from their minds, but it bec-ae possible to get
their active co-operation and keen interest in the organisation
of control. The Iranian Anti-Locust staff was quite good and eager
to learn and in the end warmly appreciated the technical help ren
dered by the delegation. The part played by the British Military
authorities in providing transport facilities anu by the Anglo
Persian oil Company in proviulng and delivering free of cost,
large quantities of crude oil for Killing locust noppers are des
cribed hereafter in detail. The entire organisation for control in I
which all the above mentioned widely different authorities Joined
hands and worked in union is an achievement worthy of record, .ve
take this opportunity of thanking them all lor their co-operation
and particularly the Iranian Government for giving us all possible
facilities throughout Iran.
