About this record

Content

A commentary by al-Ḥasan ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn Niẓām al-Dīn al-Aʿraj al-Nīsābūrī (الحسن بن محمد بن الحسين نظام الدين الأعرج النيسابوري; d. 1328 or 9) on the Kitāb al-tadhkirah fī al-hay’ah (كتاب التذكرة في الهيئة; see British Library, MS Or.11209) a treatise on the astronomical system presented in the Almagest of Ptolemy (Claudius Ptolemaeus; c 90-c 168) by Naṣīr al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad al-Ṭūsī (نصير الدين محمد بن محمد الطوسي; d. 1274).

The copy was completed in Rabī‘ II 827/March-April 1424 (see colophon Section at the end of a manuscript text. , f. 192r, lines 20-21, transcribed below).

According to an inscription on the title page (f. 1r), this volume contains part one of this commentary, but in fact it appears to be complete. The text contains numerous diagrams.

A leaf (f. 105) containing (on its recto The front of a sheet of paper or leaf, often abbreviated to 'r'. side only) text and diagrams by a hand other than that of the main scribe has been bound into the volume between ff. 104 and 106. A diagram on a slip of paper (f. 106a) has been bound into the volume between ff. 106 and 107. A slip of paper (frag.) containing notes on both sides was found between ff. 119 and 120.

A slip of paper containing a short note covering a long note in the margin of f. 34r has been lifted and hinged to reveal the note below.

Begins (f. 1v, lines 2-4):

Ends (f. 192r, lines 13-18):

لرضي أرحم الراحمين فإن الأعمال بالنيات وبها تجلب البركات

وينال الدرجات والحمد لمبدع الكل والصلوة على الهادي إلى أقوام

Colophon Section at the end of a manuscript text. (f. 192r, lines 18-21):
