Your Excellency will perceive from Mr. Thomson’s despatch that the Turkish
Minister at Tehran has made no progress with the Convention which it was proposed
to negotiate with the Persian Government for the settlement of this question ; and I
have to request you to take a favourable opportunity of urging upon the Porte the
necessity of expediting the conclusion of this agreement.

Ambassador here, in regard to the incursion of Kurds into Persia.

DEUX his Cheikh Obeidoullah, habitant Hackari, et Hamza Agha, de Mankour,
connus pour leur perversite, Chefs d’une troupe de Malfaiteurs nomades comme eux,
se sont livres a des actes de pillage et de devastation considerables a Lavoncheblock et
Maragah. Des troupes ont t envoyes pour empcher la sedition et punir les
coupables. A l'tranger on ne connait gure les habitudes et la nature sauvages des
Kurdes de cette locality. Cette sedition n’a aucun caractAre important. Il est facile
de reconnaitre quo ces Kurdes n'ont d'autre but que le pillage auquel ils sont enclins,
A la nouvelle de Papproche des troupes ces malfaiteurs ont pris la fuite des environs de
Mara gab.

TWO sops of Sheikh Obeidoullah, inhabitants of Hackari, and Hamza Agha, of
Mankour, well known for their bad character, Chiefs of a band of nomad marauders
like themselves, have committed various acts of pillage and devastation at Lavonche
block and Maragah. Troops have been sent to prevent a rising and to punish the
offenders. The habits and savage natures of the Kurds of this locality are not
known abroad. This rising is of no importance. It is easy to see that these Kurds
have no other object but pillage, to which they are given. At the news of the
approach of the troops these marauders fled from the neighbourhood of Maragah.

My Lord,. Tehran, October 27, 1880.
I HAVE the honour to inform your Lordship that Mr. Abbott is reported to have
left Oroomiah last week with the intention of returning to Tabreez, and to have been
prevented from doing so as the roads were in the hands of the Kurdish insurgents.
I have a h ttei from Mr. Abbott, under date of the 7th instant, in which he states
that the town was then threatened by the Kurds, in two bodies, each led by a son of
Sheikh Obe idullah, one party 1,000 strong under Sheikh Sadik having occupied a
