which were in the forecastle by means of false keys,
and stole currency notes and cash, of the collective
value of Rs. 138-8, from the boxes.
The Falkland Road MURDER.—At the Girgaum
Police Court yesterday. Superintendent Grennan
charged Emanmoodin Mithakhan before Mr. Richard
son, with committing murder by causing the death
of Hajee Hafim, a cookshopkeeper, at Falkland Road,
on the 24th instant. The case was postponed for
hearing to the 1st proximo to enable the police to
instruct the Public Prosecutor to appear for the
prosecution. The accused was remanded to jail.
Can the World get on Without APOLLINARIS
Water.— “ Polly ” is such a universal favourite in
the best-regulated houses that it is not surprising to
find Mr. Justice Kekewich, in some recent Chancery
proceedings, inquiring with solemn jocosity of the
learned Q.C. “ How is the world to get on without
Apollinaris, Mr. Aston ?” It is also not surprising
that the mere thought of such a catastrophe compell
ed the Q.C. to admit that " he did not know,” “ Nor

Fire at DHARAVIE.—A’ fire broke out at 11 o’clock
on Saturday night, in a cadjan shed, occupied by five
families. Some bullocks and labour-carts were also
housed in the same shed, with a large quantity of hay;
all of which with the exception of the bullocks was
destroyed by the fire. The Mahim manual engine
was soon on the spot, but it was already too late to
render any assista nce. The origin of the fire is attri
buted to the careless use of an unprotected kerosine
lamp. The damage is estimated at Rs. 357.
The Excessive use of Ganja.—An inquest was held
by the Coroner, at the morgue, respecting the death of
Koobee Javair, aged 20 years. Deceased was a ser
vant to a sweetmeat seller, on the Falkland Road, and
was addicted to the use of ganja. On Sunday he was
found lying dead on a bench, at the Malabar Hill
Reservoir. There were no external marks of violence |

A cricket match was played between these two clubs
on Saturday last, on the Cooperage, which resulted in
a win for the former by 45 runs on the first ibnings.
The captain of the A. G. O. C. Club, having won the
toss, elected to bat, and oc~-ee --1J oa v£ whiv—
Mr. Dorabji scored 20 not out. The Y. H. C. Club then
commenced their innings and, when they had run
down 76 runs for 4 wickets, declared their innings
at an end. . To the total of 76 Mr. R. C. Navalkar
contributed 44 runs with a good display of cricket,
Mr. K. M. Vijayakar 10, and Mr. N. B. Pilgamkar 8.
The Accountant-General’s Office 0. Club in their
'Second innings made a better stand, and saved an
innings defeat by scoring 47 runs for the loss of 9
wickets. In this innings Mr. Navroji scored 20 runs
with very patient play. Messrs. A. R. Kirtikar and
D. B. Ranjit bowled well for the Y. H. C. Club.
The fielding of both the clubs in the first innings was
good, but in the second innings of the A. G. O. C.
Club, the Y. H. C. Club fielded rather loosely. Ap

A CHURCE closed at DoNGRI.—The Church of our
Lady of Bethlehom, Dongri, in Salsette, has been closed
by the parishioners. The Bishop of Damaun pro
ceeded thither on Sunday but the result has not yet

THEFT from A Ship.—Between the hours of 9 a. m.
and 1 p. m. on Saturday last some person entered
