Area, 95 square miles ; Population (1881), 6,007 ; Gross Revenue, Rs. 22,044.
No change occurred during the year 1888-89 in the administration of the DaphlApur
JAghir.
The season was fair; hut prices rose owing to the export of grain by the Southern
Maratha Railway.
The police force, consisting of 28 men as in the previous year, was maintained at the very
low cost of Rs. 363. Twenty-one offences were reported to the police and 22 persons were
arrested and sent for trial; but only 3 were convicted. In the previous year 13 offences were
reported, 12 persons arrested and 3 convicted. The amount of property stolen was Rs. 198, of
which Rs. 6 only were recovered. The Criminal Courts dealt with 43 cases as compared with
51 in the previous year ; and out of 55 accused involved convicted 10. The cases were mostly
of a trivial nature and twenty-three were compounded. There were no appeals. Three
prisoners were confined in the jail.
Including arrears there were 32 civil suits for disposal as compared with 30 in the civil Justice,
previous year. Twenty-three were disposed of, only 7 being contested. Two appeals were
preferred to the Political Agent.
The total revenue of the State for the year, including cash recoveries (Rs. 15,724),
remissions and alienations (Rs. 4,973), and outstanding balances (Rs. 9,569) amounted to
Rs. 30,266 as compared with Rs. 29,123 in the preceding year. The gross revenue shown
at the head of this section has been obtained by deducting from the total revenue the
amount representing arrears recovered during the year. The expenditure inclusive of
remissions and alienations amounted to Rs. 22,367 against Rs. 19,715 in the previous
year, and the closing cash balance was Rs. 5,635.
The number of births registered during the year was 250 as compared with 272 in
the previous year, and the number of deaths 106 as compared with 152. The number of
children vaccinated was 256 as compared with 220 in the previous year.
