SITUATION NEWS.
looting op anah by rawiin.
Trustworthy ae * nnts have reached ns of the
looting of ' Anah by the Rawiin. The people of
Rawah had long been suspected of being in close
Bommunication with hostile tribes, and it is widely
reported that the house of Saiyid Muhsin al Rawi
was the meeting place of the Shaikhs of the
Aqaidat, Jaghaifah, Shaikh Nijris ibn Qa’ud of the
Dulaim, and other disaffected persons. It was
from this centre that the order emanated
for an attack on ‘ Anah as soon as it was
evacuated by the friendly Dulaim under Shaikh
Ali ibn Sulaiman. Special directions were
given for the looting of the Haqmn Quarter,
which had supplied Shabanah to the British
Administration, and of the two Jewish Quar
ters of the town. The assailants were about
2,000 strong, of whom half were tribesmen and
half Rawiin. The Haqum Quarter was gutted,
and the Mudir Mai Matiub Effendi, together with
Yusuf Efifendi, a JKatib in the Maliyah. were put
to death. A wealthy inhabitant of Al Khutubah
Quarter, Mahmud, together with his son, and
Abdul Salam of the Dalla ’Ali mahallah, were
also killed. No motive for these murders is dis
cernible save the desire for plunder. Six mahal-
lahs in all, including the two Jewish mahallahs,
were sacked. The women and children who
were unable to take flight were at the mercy of
their assailants, who robbed them of clothes and
jewellery, looted and burnt their houses, and
left them without means of subsistence. Many
boat loads of booty were carried off from ’Anah
by the Rawiin.

DEVASTATING EXPLOSION IN
NEW YORK.
MYSTERIOUS DISASTER IN WALL
STREET.
33 KILLED AND MO INJURED.
New York, September 16th.
A huge explosion took place in ^all Street
during the lunch hoar to-day when the street
was thronged. Eye-witnesses in the immediate
neighbourhood were all either killed or seriously
injured. Mystery surrounds the disaster.
Messrs. Morgan’s offices were completely wreck-
ad. It is estimated that thirty three people were
killed and two hundred wounded. The material
damage is estimated at 1 , 000,000 dollars.

120,000 Sbeleefs at Advanced Supply Depot, Right
Bank for a period of (3) three months.
The Sheleefs are to be made of double thick
ness of Hessian, and double string will be used
for sewing.
Hessian and String will be provided by
Government.
Each Sheleef will measure 9 feet X 4 feet.
Tenders are to be submitted in writing.
Tenderers mast deposit Earnest money to the
value of Rs. 300 which will be refunded to the
unsuccessful tenderers.
All tenders must be Disced in the box kept
for that purpose at the Office of the O.O., R.A.S.C.,
17th Divisional Area, Karradah, Billet No. 11.

Explosion due to time Bombs.
London, September 11th.
A New York wire states that the police, fire and
explosive experts are absolutely of opinion that the
explosion was due to time bombs, loaded with
T.N.T. This would appear to be found inthefact
that a letter was sent to the French High Commis
sioner’s Office on Wednesday, warning the officials
that a catastrophe would occur in Wall Street at
half-past two, but not mentioning the date. The
police are searching for the writer.
Injured Estimated at 500.
Bombay, September 18th.
The New York Police last night reported that
they had found evidence that the explosion was
caused by a huge bomb. The disaster caused
panic throughout the entire New York financial
district. It occurred during the luncheon hour,
when Wall Street was thronged. A tremendous
hole in the middle of Wall Street marks the spot
where the explosion occurred. According' to
latest estimates the number of injured is five
hundred.

TROOPS.
Paris, September 17th.
A message from Constantinople states that
General Wraugel’s troops have routed the Bolshe
viks and have pushed their offensive as far as
Mogaiak, which they have occupied. They are
now advancing iu the direction of Bergamek.
Prisoners are streaming in.
