words expressive of the same dignity, shahimhdh (king
°f kings),jb^ shariydr (friend of the city), khdn (lord),
sultan, ibi shah or shah (king),^-^ kaysar (Caesar),
kisra', jj~o£- Khusraw (Cyrus or Cosroes). Pddshdh is
however in general reckoned a higher title, and is frequently
used with various adjuncts and epithets: as ^Lijb King of
the world; ^Lljb Sovereign of the face of the
