DUZDAP.—Lat, 29 0 30 '; Long. 6 o° 55 '; Elev. 4 , 319 '.
Here there is a strip of cultivation watered by three karezeSy the property
of one Sayad Khan, a Gurge] Rakshani, who appears to have settled
here about 35 years ago. Duzdap supplies the Rubat thana regularly
with forage; in 1899 about 40 maunds were supplied.
In 1899 Sayad Khan was sent for by the Sartip of Nar Mashir and
warned against having dealings with the British Government. In lieu
of sending one-third of his produce as tribute to the Sartip he gives him
his younger brother and tw r o nephews for service. In this way he is
enabled to keep up his supply of forage to the Robat thana.
Besides the three karezes mentioned, there are several more half
opened up in the vicinity; they are all situated towards the northern edg 4 ;
of the Duzdap plain, in the portion of country known as Sarzangal. East
of the karezes there are some small streams of good water running east
wards, and several small lagoons amidst the nal grass. North of the
cultivation there is a fringe of tall grass and reeds about miles in
depth extending for about 5 miles along the northern edge of the plain,
W'hich here forms the left bank of the Ziarat Rod. A Persian customs
post is under construction here.
Duzdap camping-ground is the third stage from Robat on the road to
Ladis, and is good and open. Camel-grazing, coarse grass and firewood
are abundant in the vicinity, but the only other supplies obtainable
locally are a small amount of corn and bhusa and a few goats.
A colony of Mamasani Baluch settled at Duzdap in 1899 , and are
industriously engaged in adding to the number of karezes. The Duzdap
cultivation will shortly more than suffice to meet the requirements in
grain and forage of the Robat thana. (Benn — Roome — Webb-Ware.)
DUZDAP NALA (a halting-place 2 miles from the junction of Duzdap
with Mian Bazar nala). —Elev. 3 , 858 '.
Here there is a small quantity of brackish water issuing from the
nala-btd amidst a thick copse of tamarisk bushes. There is good camel
grazing around, and there is a small amount of nal grass close to the
w r ater. Camping-ground on the left bank of the nala is on an open
plain; there are no supplies. From the marks amongst the tamarisk
bushes, water must run freely here some years, and then probably it
would lose a great deal of its brackishness. (Roome.)
DUZDAP PLAIN.—Lat. 29 ° 28 / ; Long. 6 o° 54 '; Elev.
This plain extends for several miles.
The Bed mountain bounds it on the east ; Koh-i-Khwaja-i-Misk
and Koh-i-Raughani on the south ; K. Md. Kushta on the w r est, and
on the north the Ziarat Rod separates it from the lower hills of the
Kachakoh range. The plain is almost level, but has a slight slope
down towards the north, where there are some karezes and a little
cultivation. The surface soil towards the west is sand and fine gravel,
and towards the east and south coarse shingle. The northern edge
known as Sarzungle is fringed with a belt of coarse nal grass and
camel thorn for about one and a half miles in depth and extending for
about five miles. In this belt are several streams of good water and
some lagoons where a few duck and teal may be shot ; the streams
