to a combined attack on them by Mahsuds and
Wazirs.
Recent enquiries in regard to the unrest
in Daur show that a few days before the Id
notice of a general jihad was passed round.
The leading Maliks were bound by oath not
to reveal the plot, and the majority of the Tori
Khel Maliks affixed their seal to the Koran
as a pledge of secrecy. The general attitude
of the Daurs at the beginning of April was
reported to be surly.
On the Ibth April, a Mahsud bahir
returning to Bannu was attacked near the
mouth of the Khaisora by Wazir raiders,
believed to have come from Birmal, who took
to flight, leaving the camels which they had
captured, on the arrival of some of the
Northern Waziristan Militia from Saidgi.
The Mahsuds are said to have had fifteen to
twenty men killed or wounded and several
camels killed.
The Idak-Thal road has been completed
as far as Spin warn, and the road allowances
have been distributed.
BALUCHISTAN.
On the 7th Pebruary, eight Pathans, with
two camels and six donkeys, were returning
from Seistan by the Helmand route; and when
a few miles south of Ziarat-i-Said Mahmud,
within British territory, were set upon by a
party of ten Afghans, who captured five out
of the eight Pathans and carried off all their
animals. After the raid, the Afghans took a
route which involved a march of some twenty
miles through British territory. Three of the
Afghans are said to have come from Shorawak,
while four others are stated to be khassadars
of the Afghan post at Sher Shah Nawar.
On the 12 th April, three Afghan khassa
dars from the Amir’s thana at Ismail Chah
entered an Alizai village within the British
border, took food forcibly from one of the
inhabitants, and demanded the payment of
taxes on certain sheep from another. On the
latter refusing to pay, he was beaten, and an
attempt was made to take him to Afghan
territory. Some villagers came to his assist
ance, and two of the khassadars were arrested.
On the night of the 26th April, the British
post at Shinbaz was attacked by a large gang
of raiders, believed to be Mahsud Wazirs.
The raiders, who are estimated to have num
bered between 50 and 70 , rushed the tower,
and entered the lower storey, but were driven
back after band to hand fighting, in which
they had several casualties. Their retreat was
covered by heavy fire from the neighbouring
bills under which they removed their wounded.
