I sin coirunanded by the Army Gounoil t6 r acknowledge
the receipt of your letter No*P.4872,dated 24thTune, 1920,
and am to say in reply that there is no prospect of any
mountain guns being available in Mesopotamia at an early date.
There are,however,eight 10-pdr•mountain guns in
Egypt which could be sent to Mesopotamia,four of which would
be for presentation to His Excellency the Sheikh of Mahommerah,
as requested in Civil Commissioner’s P.7452 of the 20th June ,
and, subject to Treasury approval, arrangements will be made
for these to be transferred to Mesopotamia as early as possible.
As regards the remaining eight guns for the
Assyrian refugees,it appears that there are now in India,surplus
to requirements,sixteen 10-pdr.mountain guns,and I am to
enquire whether you could arrange for eight of these,with one
hundred rounds of ammunition per gun,to be sent to Mesopotamia
for this purpose.
The Council presume that as thfifrguns are of an
obsolete pattern,the Government of India would be willing to
dispose of them at & nominal price but they would be glad to
receive an assurance on this point*
A copy of a telegram which will be despatched to
Egypt and Mesopotamia on receipt of Treasury sanction is
enclosed.

It mainly covers conversations between British and French officials regarding the Christian (mostly Assyrian and Armenian) refugees in the refugee camp at Baqubah [also written Ba’qubah, Ba’quba and Baquba] in Mesopotamia [approximately corresponding to present-day Iraq], and their possible repatriation.
Related matters of discussion include the following: the health of the refugees; background; labour capacity; expenses and payments of the refugee camp; administration of the camp and its economic challenges; transportation for repatriation. Included in the correspondence are letters from Surma Khanin D’Mar Shimun describing the situation of the camp and asking for changes to the camp, and for the return of the Assyrians and Armenians. In addition, there are some inquiries received by British officials from Christian Assyrians. Also mentioned are the following: the ‘Christian Army of Revenge’, French propaganda among the Assyrians, Assyrio-Chaldean [Assyro-Chaldeans] refugees in Russia, and the American Mission.
