2, I enclose herewith a copy of a memorandum K T o. G/216
dated the 24th March 1939 from the Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. Agent, Sharjah,
together with its enclosures. Two points in particular arise
from this communication.
(i) It seems to me in the highest degree improper for
the Wall of Sohar, Mudhafar bin Sulaiman, to have written
to the Shaikh of Has al Khaimah in the terms used in his
letter of the 26th Muharram 1358. That letter appears to
indicate that the Muscat Government is prepared to attack
and take the Wadi A seasonal or intermittent watercourse, or the valley in which it flows. al Qaur unless the Shaikh of Has al Khaimah
takes certain action. Whether or not. His Highness the Sultan
of Muscat was on good ground in the arguments quoted in the
Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. Muscat's letter No. G/183 dated the 28th
November 1938 on this subject, there can certainly be no
justification for one of his Walis to issue a threat of this
nature; and I trust it will be possible to draw His Highness
the Sultan's serious attention to the impropriety of this
