In the letter Henderson acknowledges receipt of Bruce's letter of 23 March 1820, reporting the loss of the Honourable Company's [East India Company] cruizer Ariel . He continues that the Governor in Council has learned with satisfaction of the humane treatment of the survivors of the Ariel by the Sheikh of Karrack, and approves of Bruce's suggestion that the Sheikh be given a gift in recognition of British gratitude.
